Auto Coverages
Auto insurance provides protection from losses resulting from owning and/or operating an automobile.
Your policy’s declaration (dec) page outlines the limits that your insurance company will pay for each of the following coverages. The dec page also specifies the premium (the cost of the policy), effective dates & drivers.
Liability Coverages
Liability coverage is mandated by the State of Illinois. Policies that only provide Liability coverage are referred to as “Liability Only”.
Bodily Injury Liability (Each Person/Each Accident) – This coverage pays for medical expenses and lost wages of others involved in an accident that you caused. The two amounts listed for this coverage represent the amount that may be paid to each person and the total amount paid for each accident.
Property Damage Liability (Each Accident) – This coverage pays for damage to other people’s property as a result of an accident that you caused.
Medical Payments – This coverage pays for medical expenses that you and your passengers incur as a result of an accident. Each person may receive up to the medical payment limit, regardless of who is at fault.
Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury (Each Person/Each Accident) – This covers you and your passengers if you are in an accident where the other driver is at fault and does not have any liability coverage to compensate you for your injuries.
Underinsured Motorists Bodily Injury (Each Person/Each Accident) – This covers you and your passengers if you are in an accident where the other driver is at fault and does not have enough coverage to compensate you for your injuries.
Physical Damage Coverages
Physical damage coverage is not mandated by the State of Illinois. The term “Full Coverage” refers to a policy that has both Liability coverage and Physical Damage coverage.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – This coverage protects against losses that occur to your vehicle as a result of theft, fire, vandalism, weather, bird/animal and other similar circumstances.
Collision or Upset – This coverage protects against losses that occur as a result a collision with another vehicle/object or if your vehicle rolls over.
Note: A policy can have Comprehensive coverage without Collision coverage!
Other Coverages & Terms
Deductible – This is the amount of a physical damage claim that you are responsible for paying before the insurance company will begin paying.
Rental Reimbursement (optional) – This coverage provides a set amount of coverage towards a rental car when your vehicle is unusable due to a covered loss.
Towing (optional) – Provides a set amount of coverage for towing expenses in the event your vehicle becomes disabled.
